The Palomar Health Foundation has been awarded a conditional bond of nearly $50 million through the Proposition 1 Bond Behavioral Health Continuum Infrastructure Program (BHCIP). This marks the seventh consecutive year that Palomar Health has received this international recognition, highlighting its sustained performance in innovation, compassionate care, and clinical excellence. The award is presented by Newsweek and Statista Inc., based on recommendations from medical experts, patient survey results regarding their hospitalization experience, hospital quality metrics (including care quality, hygiene standards, patient safety, and wait times), and an optional survey on the use of patient-reported outcome measures. Palomar Health leadership, including President and CEO Diane Hansen, emphasized that this award reflects the dedication of their staff and reinforces the trust patients place in them for high-quality care. Scripps Health and Anthem Blue Cross have agreed to extend their previous in-network contracts through September 30, 2026, after their contract initially terminated on January 1, 2025. This extension allows most Anthem Blue Cross members to have in-network access to Scripps' facilities and providers. This development is relevant to Palomar Health as Palomar Medical Center was previously mentioned as an alternative in-network provider for Anthem members affected by the initial contract termination between Scripps and Anthem. During the extension period, Scripps and Anthem will work towards negotiating a new long-term agreement. The initial termination had affected over 100,000 patients and was reportedly due to disagreements over price increases and prior authorization policies. Anthem had stated that Scripps demanded drastically increased prices, while Scripps argued that Anthem's proposed reimbursements and policies were inadequate to cover costs.

Sharp HealthCare has threatened to file a lawsuit against Palomar Health, demanding immediate repayment of a $26 million loan (principal and interest). Sharp alleges that Palomar Health breached an exclusivity arrangement established last year when Palomar borrowed $25 million from Sharp in May 2024. The threat of litigation arose after Palomar Health accepted a $20 million loan from UC San Diego Health, which was approved by Palomar's board on March 7, 2025. Palomar Health officials deny Sharp's allegations, claiming Sharp did not actively pursue a joint affiliation until the one-year exclusivity period was nearing its end on March 28, 2025. Palomar maintains that the exclusivity agreement did not prohibit them from seeking other loans and that the UC San Diego Health loan was a 'no strings attached' loan aimed at ensuring Palomar's survival to serve the community.
