Jennifer Mendrzycki, President and CEO of TMC Health, along with Alison Flynn Gaffney, CEO of Banner โ€“ University Medicine southern Arizona, will serve as co-chairs for the 2026 American Heart Association Heart Walk in Southern Arizona. This initiative aims to create a community of individuals trained in lifesaving skills. As co-chairs, Mendrzycki and Flynn Gaffney will mobilize civic and business leaders throughout Southern Arizona to encourage participation in the Heart Walk, a year-round campaign dedicated to fundraising for the fight against cardiovascular disease. The campaign also focuses on educating the public about hands-only CPR and providing resources for responding to cardiac emergencies. The American Heart Association recently marked 100 years of service, with a strong emphasis on hands-only CPR education as a crucial component of the Heart Walk. The organization highlights that a significant majority of people who experience cardiac arrest outside of a hospital do not survive, but immediate CPR can significantly increase their chances. Mendrzycki, Flynn Gaffney, and other regional leaders are committed to increasing the number of people in Southern Arizona prepared to act effectively in these critical situations. Marc Acuรฑa, executive director of the American Heart Association in Tucson, stated that the Heart Walk provides a significant opportunity to address a vital community health issue, as cardiac arrest can occur unexpectedly, and bystander action is often critical for survival.
