Robert T. Braithwaite is president and chief executive officer (CEO) of Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian. [2] He is the senior executive responsible for all aspects of hospital operations and quality of care, and directs an executive leadership team. [2, 3, 4] He is also responsible for a significant philanthropic effort, directing the Hoag Hospital Foundation along with a senior executive and staff, and is responsible for the provision of hospital-sponsored outreach services and is accountable for achieving community benefit goals. [2, 3] From 2009 until his appointment as president and CEO in 2013, Braithwaite was chief operating officer of Hoag's entire health care network including both campuses of Hoag Hospital. [2, 3] He also served as chief administrative officer of Hoag Hospital Irvine which opened in 2010, leading the process of developing, building, staffing, and licensing both Hoag Hospital Irvine as well as Hoag Orthopedic Institute. [2, 3] Braithwaite joined Hoag in 1992 as administrative resident and throughout his tenure has served in key management positions for Hoag's network of hospitals and community urgent care centers. Kathy Azeez-Narain is the Senior Vice President, Chief Digital and Innovation Officer at Hoag. In this role, she is responsible for leading Hoag's digital strategy and transformation, aiming to enhance patient experiences and optimize the relationship between patients and their health information through digital tools and a comprehensive digital ecosystem. Prior to joining Hoag, Azeez-Narain spent over a decade in the financial services industry, including 15 years at American Express. At American Express, she held various leadership positions focusing on digital product innovation, marketing, and data strategies. She was involved in launching some of the company's initial digital solutions, such as mobile experiences and centralized data platforms. Azeez-Narain earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Hofstra University. She transitioned to the healthcare industry motivated by a desire to apply her digital and technology background to improve healthcare experiences, following a personal experience. She is recognized for her ability to translate vision into impactful change and champion innovation.
Jim Boyle is the Vice President of the Hoag Clinic MSO, which serves as the physician platform and payor contracting vehicle for Hoag's physician network. He is recognized as an experienced managed care expert with a strong background in technology and analytics. Prior to his role at Hoag, Boyle was the Chief Operating Officer at Golden State Medicare Health Plan, where he managed various responsibilities including contracting a new Pharmacy Benefit Manager, expanding the health plan, and streamlining operations such as claims, enrollment, member services, human resources, compliance, and marketing. Before that, he held the position of Vice President of Information Services, Business Intelligence, and Transformation Technologies at Providence St. Joseph Health. Boyle holds a Master's in Public Health, Public Health Practice from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Providence College. He was expected to complete a Master of Science in Information Design and Strategy from Northwestern University in Spring 2021. He also holds an active Certification in Governance of Enterprise IT (CGEIT). Boyle has received accolades throughout his career, including being recognized by Becker's Hospital Review in 2016 as one of 50 Healthcare Leaders Under 40 and one of 33 Health IT & Revenue Cycle Wiz Kids. In 2017, the Catholic Healthcare Association of the United States named him one of the 11 recipients for the Tomorrow's Leaders recognition.
Michael N. Brant-Zawadzki, M.D., F.A.C.R., is the Vice President of Clinical Research Administration, Center for Accelerating Technology and Life Sciences Translation (CATALiST), and Addiction Services at Hoag Hospital. He previously served as Hoag's Senior Physician Executive and the Executive Medical Director of the Pickup Family Neurosciences Institute. Dr. Brant-Zawadzki graduated first in his class from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine after earning his BA from Stanford University. He completed his diagnostic radiology residency and neuroradiology fellowship at Stanford, where he remains on adjunct faculty. His background also includes six years as a full-time professor at UCSF and over a decade as Medical Director of Radiology at Hoag. A Fellow of the American College of Radiology and a Gold Medal recipient from the Society of Magnetic Resonance in Medicine, he has authored over 200 papers and numerous textbooks and is a consultant to biotech and radiology companies. He has over 40 years of experience in the medical field.
Allyson Brooks, M.D., F.A.C.O.G., is the Ginny Ueberroth Executive Medical Director Endowed Chair and Chief Quality Officer of the Women's Health Institute at Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian. She is a board-certified Obstetrician/Gynecologist with over 35 years of experience in the medical field. Dr. Brooks joined Hoag in 1993 and has held various leadership roles, including Chair of the Department of OB/Gyn and serving on the Hoag Board of Trustees. Prior to her current executive role, she was in private practice in Newport Beach for 21 years, retiring in 2013. During her clinical career, she delivered over 2,000 babies and performed more than 1,000 minimally invasive gynecologic surgical procedures. She is recognized for her excellence in minimally invasive gynecology and has received awards for her compassionate care. Dr. Brooks has been key in establishing comprehensive women's health programs at Hoag, contributing to its recognition as a top hospital for women's health. She also holds a leadership fellowship from the Health Management Academy and oversees quality and patient safety at Hoag as a senior physician executive. Dr. Brooks is actively involved in the community, serving on the boards of MOMS Orange County and Share Our Selves (SOS).
Marcy Brown is the Senior Vice President and Chief Operations Officer at Hoag, responsible for operations at both Hoag Hospital Newport Beach and Hoag Hospital Irvine. In this role, she also oversees the Chief Nursing Officer and their teams, as well as Lab, Pathology, Radiology, Pastoral Care, Community Medicine, and the Hoag Urgent Care Network. Prior to her current position, she served as the Senior Vice President of Hoag Hospital Irvine and Ambulatory Operations. She was instrumental in the strategic and operational planning for the launch of Hoag Health Center Irvine, Hoag Health Center Tustin Legacy, and Hoag Health Center Foothill Ranch, and supported the expansion of urgent care services throughout Orange County. Ms. Brown joined Hoag in 2001 with over 10 years of experience in healthcare and the management of radiology operations. Before joining Hoag, she was the Director of Medical Imaging at Swedish Medical Center – Providence Campus in Seattle, Washington, where she managed the Medical Imaging Department, Radiation Oncology Department, and the Comprehensive Breast Center. She is a member of the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and is Certified with the California Board of Radiology Technology. Additionally, she serves on the Irvine Children's Foundation Board of Directors and is active in professional organizations including the American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT) and the Association for Medical Imaging Management (AHRA).
Carmella Cassetta is the Vice President and Chief Information Officer (CIO) at Hoag Health System. In this role, she is responsible for all IT functions supporting clinical and business operations, including the Electronic Health Record (EHR), IT operations, data centers, strategy, governance, technical support services, and all clinical and business software and hardware platforms. She joined Hoag in 2014 as Director of Technology and advanced to the CIO role in 2019. Ms. Cassetta has over 30 years of experience in Information Technology across various industries, including serving as Corporate Vice President of Global IT at Ingram Micro, VP of IT at Barnes and Noble Retail and Online, and VP and CIO at Corinthian Colleges. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business from the University of Connecticut and received certification in Information Technology from New York University School of Continuing Education. In 2008, she was recognized with CIO Magazine's "CIO 100 Innovation Award." Ms. Cassetta also serves as an advisory board member for AWT (Advancing Women in Technology) and is an advocate for women in technology.
Eric W. Cheung is the Senior Vice President, Chief Legal Officer, and General Counsel at Hoag. In this position, he is responsible for all legal matters within the Hoag enterprise, providing counsel to executive leadership and the Board of Directors on significant transactions, litigation, regulatory issues, and corporate affairs. His purview includes strategic and operational concerns such as mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, affiliations, commercial contracts, and lawsuits, as well as managing risk and advising on healthcare fraud and abuse, privacy, licensing, real estate, intellectual property, and employment matters. Eric W. Cheung is a healthcare attorney by profession. He holds a Bachelor's degree from the University of California, Berkeley, and a law degree from the University of Southern California, Gould School of Law.
Teresa Conk is the Senior Vice President and Chief Clinical Institutes Officer at Hoag, bringing over 25 years of leadership experience in the healthcare industry. She is responsible for leading the strategy and operations of Hoag's various Clinical Institutes, including Women's Health, Family Cancer, Heart & Vascular, Neurosciences, and Digestive Health. Before her tenure at Hoag, Conk served as Chief Strategy Officer and Associate Vice Chancellor at UCI Health, where she was responsible for strategy and integration across the clinical enterprise and the School of Medicine. Her prior experience also includes senior leadership roles at Children's Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) and St. Joseph Hospital in Orange. Academically, Conk holds a Master's in Health Administration from the University of Southern California and a Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Administration from Chapman University. Her professional expertise encompasses areas such as strategy, planning, physician integration, mergers and acquisitions, business development, and ambulatory operations. Recognized as a visionary leader in the California healthcare sector, she was a finalist for the Los Angeles Times Inspirational Women's Awards. Additionally, she is involved in the community, serving on the boards of the Orange County Business Council and the American Cancer Society - OC.
Dr. Martin J. Fee is the Senior Vice President and Chief Clinical Officer at Hoag. He received his medical degree with honors from the University of Chicago, Pritzker School of Medicine in 1988. He completed his Internal Medicine Residency at the University of Chicago Medical Center and an Infectious Disease Fellowship at USC+LA County Medical Center. Dr. Fee has been a practicing Infectious Disease specialist at Hoag since 1994. He has held several leadership roles at Hoag, including Chair of Infection Control, Chair of the Department of Medicine, Member of the Hoag Board of the Directors, Chief Medical Information Officer, Chief of Staff, and Chief Clinical Care & Transformation Officer. In his current role, he provides expertise, direction, guidance, and daily operational oversight of Hoag's strategic IT innovations, transformative clinical processes, and the patient continuum of care, as well as oversight of clinical operations for Hoag Medical Group.
Michael Gam is the Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for Hoag Clinic. In this role, he is responsible for the Clinic's financial functions, including financial planning and analysis, M&A, revenue cycle management, and performance improvement. Gam has over 30 years of experience in healthcare financial management, business leadership, and corporate strategy. Prior to joining Hoag in 2020, he served as CFO for Prospect Medical Group. Before that, he was the CFO for Brown & Toland Medical Group from 2010 to 2018 and the CFO for Talbert Medical Group from 1991 to 2010. Earlier in his career, he held senior-level positions at City of Hope Hospital and MedPartners, Inc. Gam received his degree in Business Economics in Denmark and previously worked in public accounting. He has also served on the board for a Hospice entity and America's Physician Group/APG.
Janell Griggs, M.S.N., R.N., C.M.S.R.N., NE-BC, is the Vice President of Nursing Operations at Hoag. In this role, she collaborates with the Senior Vice President of Clinical Operations/Chief Nursing Officer to oversee nursing operations, services, and programs. She has been part of the Hoag organization since January 2006. Prior to her current position, Ms. Griggs served as the Director of Nursing for the inpatient Pulmonary and Oncology departments at Hoag Hospital Newport Beach for two years. From 2009 to 2016, she worked as a Charge Nurse. Ms. Griggs has actively participated in initiatives at Hoag focused on patient safety, quality outcomes, and nurse satisfaction, presenting findings at the Western Institute of Nursing Conference. She has also been involved in the planning committee for the Hoag Embracing Excellence in Oncology Nursing Practice conference. Ms. Griggs holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and a Master of Science in Nursing with an emphasis on Leadership in Health Care Systems from Grand Canyon University. She is a Certified Medical-Surgical Nurse through the Medical Surgical Nursing Certification Board and is a member of the American Nurses Association, the Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses, and the Association of California Nurse Leaders.
Andrew Guarni is the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at Hoag. He is an accomplished healthcare finance executive with over three decades of experience. Guarni oversees all hospital accounting, including general accounting, payroll, accounts payable, and treasury for Hoag. His responsibilities also encompass finance and accounting, supply chain, materials management, revenue cycle, risk management, health information management, and contracting. Prior to his current role, which he has held since 2014, Guarni served as the VP of Finance at Hoag. He officially joined Hoag in 2013 as vice president of finance and was promoted to CFO within a year. His career in healthcare finance spans 40 years and includes leadership positions at other hospital networks such as Virtua Health, Inspira Health, and Catholic Health East. He began his career in the accounting department of a local hospital as a volunteer while in high school. Guarni holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from West Chester University of Pennsylvania and is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). He is also a fellow in the Healthcare Financial Management Association. His experience includes tax-exempt and asset-based financing, hospital consolidation and closure, M&A, turnarounds, revenue cycle enhancement, physician practice management, fundraising, strategic planning, and asset purchase agreements. He has served as CFO for integrated delivery systems with $1 billion in annual net revenues.
Dori Holnagel, MBA, is the Vice President of Clinical Institutes at Hoag, overseeing programs including the Hoag Family Cancer Institute, Women's Health Institute, Digestive Disease Institute, Precision Medicine Program, and Thyroid program. With 20 years of leadership experience in neurosciences, orthopedics, and cancer, she has held roles such as Executive Administrator of Hoag Family Cancer Institute and Executive Director of Pickup Family Neurosciences Institute at Hoag. Her accomplishments include implementing a new vision for the cancer program and developing the first Community Early Cognition Program in the U.S. Holnagel holds degrees in Business Management, an MBA, Science Radiology, and Radiation Therapy.
Pinkie Nolan is the Vice President, Chief Value Officer at Hoag, having joined in 2014. She is responsible for the definition, selection, prioritization, and successful execution of initiatives that are key to Hoag's strategic objectives. With over 25 years of experience, her background includes portfolio management, program/project management, M&A integration management, and performance improvement in both commercial and government sectors. Before her tenure at Hoag, she led the Enterprise Project Management Office at Inova Health System and worked in management and IT consulting for various government agencies. Ms. Nolan holds a B.S. in Systems Engineering from the University of Virginia and an M.S. in Industrial & Systems Engineering from Georgia Tech, and is a certified PMP.
Rick Martin, Ed.D., M.S.N., R.N., is the Senior Vice President, Clinical Operations and Chief Nursing Officer at Hoag Hospital, a position he has held since 1992. In this role, he is responsible for overseeing all nursing departments and various patient care services, including emergency care, perioperative services, pharmacy, care management, and respiratory care. Before becoming SVP, he served as the Assistant Vice President of Specialty Care for Hoag. Prior to joining Hoag, Dr. Martin was the Assistant Vice President of Patient Care Services at HCA Lewis-Gale Hospital in Salem, Virginia. He is actively involved in numerous nursing committees and boards, many of which were formed in response to the state and national nursing shortage. Dr. Martin is a member of ANA/California and the Association of California Nurse Leaders. He also serves on the Advisory Board and is Adjunct Faculty for the School of Nursing at California State University, Long Beach.
