Director, VA Boise health care

Appointed Director of the Boise VA Medical Center in May 2012. Prior to this, he was Director of the Oklahoma City VAMC from August 2006. Mr. Wood has been employed with the Department of Veterans Affairs since 1991. He received a Masters of Health Administration degree from Duke University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Resource Management from Brigham Young University. He was also the Medical Center Director of the Butler Pennsylvania VAMC from September 2004 to August 2006 and the Medical Center Director for four years at the VAMC in Bath, New York. He has also served as Chief Network Information Officer in VA Healthcare Network Upstate New York and as Public Affairs/Planner in El Paso, TX. Mr. Wood has achieved the status of a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives. He was appointed Interim Director of the Portland VA Medical Center in September 2024.

Served in both the Oregon National Guard and U.S. Army from 1991 to 1999. He began his VA career in logistics at the Portland Oregon VA Medical Center in 1999. In 2003 he was accepted into the VA Technical Career Field (TCF) intern program as a Prosthetics Representative. Upon completion of the TCF internship in 2005 he was selected as the Chief of Prosthetics at the Boise VA Medical Center, serving in that role until 2013 when he accepted his current role as Facility Chief Logistics Officer (FCLO). Nate has a Bachelor's degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice from Portland State University.

Has been with the Boise VA Medical Center since 2008 as a Staff Physician and then as the ACOS/Medicine. Dr. Wilper has extensive experience and knowledge of health care practices, processes, and programs in and outside of the VHA. He has an MD from the University of Washington, School of Medicine, and an MPH from Harvard University, School of Public Health. He is a practicing internist and Associate Professor of Medicine. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Physicians.

Ms. Knesel received her Bachelors of Science in Nursing at Boise State University and Masters of Nursing at St. Xavier University. She currently holds a specialty certification as a Clinical Nurse Leader. Her background includes critical care nursing, clinical information system development and implementation, Critical Care Nurse Manager, Associate Chief Nurse for Inpatient, Outpatient, Surgical, Home-Based Primary Care and Specialty Services, and Chief of Education/Designated Learning Officer. Her accomplishments include selection as a Top Ten Scholar at Boise State University, the Hall of Fame Award for outstanding organizational leadership, and the Secretary of Veterans Affairs Award for Excellence in Nursing for the BVAMC and VISN 20.
