At least half a dozen states, including Arkansas, are considering new restrictions on pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs) to limit their influence on drug prices. This comes as expectant and new mothers are reportedly struggling to access their military insurance, Tricare.

A bill was filed in the Arkansas Legislature that would prevent pharmacy benefit managers and insurance companies from owning retail pharmacies and mail order services in the state. Arkansas Attorney General Tim Griffin mentioned that two neighborhood pharmacies his family used were dropped from his military insurance network, and he received advertisements to join PBM mail order services.
