Secretary of Aging

Jason Kavulich brings 25 years of experience within the human services field to the mission of serving and advocating for Pennsylvania's 3.4 million older adults aged 60 and over. In May 2023, he was unanimously confirmed by the Senate of Pennsylvania to serve as the Secretary of Aging. [2] Prior to being appointed by Governor Josh Shapiro, Jason was serving as director of the Lackawanna County Area Agency on Aging, and as president of PA Association of Area Agencies on Aging. [2] He began his career in 1999 as a case worker and worked his way up to director of the Lackawanna County Area Agency on Aging (AAA) in 2016. [5, 6] His hands-on experience at the local human services level provides a critical perspective to supporting a 52-agency aging network covering 67 counties where services are delivered locally. [2] In his current role, Kavulich is spearheading Gov. Josh Shapiro's ambitious rethinking of the state's approach to elder services – the centerpiece of which is a 10-year strategic plan, “Aging Our Way,” which launched in May 2024. [3] In 2021, his efforts to assist older adults during the COVID-19 pandemic were honored by the County Commissioners Association of Pennsylvania and the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. [2]
