Northern Light Health, which operates Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, Mercy Hospital in Portland, and a large network of primary care and specialty care services, has been negotiating a new contract with Anthem. Northern Light has recently stated publicly that contract negotiations with Anthem have stalled, which raises the possibility that its hospitals and health care providers may no longer be in the Anthem provider network after their contract runs out on September 30.

Updated Summary Plan Description (SPD) booklets for the current medical plans were recently mailed out to all members. Per federal regulations, MMEHT is required to send these periodically when there are significant changes to the plans, such as the new names. Members should discard any older copies of the SPD booklet.

Anthem's Sydney App gives members one convenient place to keep track of their health and benefits. Dependents can also download the App to access their specific health information. With the App, users can access their ID card, find in-network Anthem providers, view claims information, track plan usage, and compare costs with different hospitals.

None of Health Trust medical plans require that members obtain a referral from a primary care physician (PCP) in order to receive in-network specialty care. This insurance referral requirement was eliminated for members who participate in the Acadia and Baxter (formerly POS C and POS 200) plans effective January 1, 2025, to lessen burdens to receiving necessary care. Members no longer need to designate a PCP, and the Health Trust will not collect or maintain PCP data.
