Gregory E. Deavens, CPA*, CGMA, is president and chief executive officer for Independence Health Group (Independence), parent of Independence Blue Cross. Under his leadership, Independence has made a strategic priority of advancing equitable, whole-person health. He assumed the role of CEO at Independence in January 2021. Mr. Deavens joined the company in 2017 as executive vice president, chief financial officer, and treasurer. Prior to that, he held senior financial roles at MassMutual, NY Life, Cigna, and GE Capital. He began his career in public accounting with Price Waterhouse. Mr. Deavens is chair of the board of directors at the Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia. He also serves on the boards of Alegeus Technologies, America's Health Insurance Plans, BCS Financial Corporation, the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association, National Institute for Health Care Management, and Quartet Health. He serves on the PNC Bank advisory board (Philadelphia Region) and as a commissioner for the Pennsylvania Early Learning Investment Commission and the America 250PA Commission. Deavens is a trustee of the Barnes Foundation, on the board of directors of the African American Museum in Philadelphia, and an honorary trustee of the Amistad Center for Art & Culture. Michael R. Vennera is executive vice president and chief strategy, technology, and operations officer at Independence Health Group (IBX). Mr. Vennera has been with IBX for nearly 25 years. During that time, he has held several leadership roles in various areas, including informatics, information systems, operations, and innovation. He brings a rare blend of expertise in strategic planning and deep understanding of IT innovation. He has overseen numerous technology initiatives. Steve Fera is executive vice president of Public Affairs and president of Government Markets at Independence Blue Cross (IBX). Over his 34-year career at IBX, he has led multiple lines of business, advised top leaders in government, and championed health equity and public-private collaboration. Today, Mr. Fera has overall corporate responsibility for IBX's nationally recognized and top-ranked Medicare Advantage plans as well as the company's public affairs division. This includes leading government and community affairs, corporate giving, and IBX's $140 million charitable foundation and its Institute for Health Equity. Mr. Fera serves on several boards, including Vista Health Plan, Tandigm Health, Pennsylvania's Chamber of Business and Industry, Public Affairs Council, and the Ed Snider Youth Hockey and Education Foundation. Mr. Fera has been recognized for his outstanding service to the community with the Good Scout Award from the Cradle of Liberty Council, Boy Scouts of America, and the Salvation Army Others Award. He was named to City & State PA's 2024 Pennsylvania Power 100 list. Mr. Fera has bachelor of science and master of business administration degrees in finance, both from St. Joseph's University in Philadelphia.
Richard Snyder, M.D., is the executive vice president of health services at Independence Health Group (IBX). He leads the strategic direction of work Independence does to redefine care delivery and promote equitable, whole-person health. This includes the company's strategic work with physicians and health systems, as well as innovative provider contracts to drive improvements in health care quality and costs for IBX's members. Dr. Snyder's team leads the company's efforts to drive clinical care transformation. Dr. Snyder is a graduate of Franklin & Marshall College and the Medical College of Pennsylvania. Linda M. Taylor is senior vice president and chief sales executive for Independence Blue Cross (Independence). She reports to Christopher Cashman, executive vice president and president of commercial markets for Independence. A veteran of more than 20 years in the health benefits field, Taylor joined Independence in 1995 as director of marketing for Keystone Health Plan East before becoming vice president of marketing of AmeriHealth New Jersey. In 2002, she was named senior vice president of marketing at AmeriHealth Administrators. Taylor has accountability for commercial sales activity and responsibility for account management and retention for Independence and two of the company's third party administrators: Independence Administrators and AmeriHealth Administrators. Taylor serves on the board of directors of Consortium Health Plans and is a chair of the MarComm steering committee. She is also a member of BCS Financial Corporation's Marketing Advisory Committee. Taylor serves on the board of directors of the Chester County Chamber of Business and Industry, Central Bucks County Chamber of Commerce, and the Main Line YMCA. She is a member of the Pyramid Club's Board of Advisors and also holds memberships for the Healthcare Businesswomen's Association, The Forum of Executive Women in the greater Philadelphia region, The Society of Professional Benefit Administrators, and participates in the Self-Insurance Institute of America as a corporate member. Taylor holds a certified health consultant designation from the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association and is recognized as a chartered benefits consultant.
Somesh Nigam, Ph. D. is senior vice president and chief informatics officer at Independence Blue Cross (Independence), overseeing the informatics division. Dr. Nigam leads Independence's cutting-edge initiatives, collaborations, and partnerships to help improve the quality of patient care and lower costs. He provides strategic direction to drive business innovation and support the emerging needs of the company's business in a dynamic marketplace. Since joining Independence, Dr. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Pennsylvania Health Care Quality Alliance and sits on a variety of other state and professional advisory committees.
Kathryn A. Galarneau is senior vice president, chief actuary, and underwriting officer at Independence Blue Cross (Independence). She oversees all aspects of product pricing, underwriting, and reserving, as well as medical cost analysis and forecasting. Prior to her current role, Galarneau served as the vice president of actuarial services, a position she has held since joining the company in 2003. Galarneau joined Independence with 12 years of health care and group benefits.
Doug Chaet is the senior vice president of provider networks and value-based solutions for Independence Blue Cross (Independence). In this role, he serves as Independence's liaison to the hospitals and more than 34,000 physicians and other health care professionals that comprise the Independence provider community. His functional areas include ACO partnerships, provider network strategy, provider contracting, provider reimbursement and pay-for-performance, provider communications, medical claims policy, and provider network operations. Chaet is also the founder and Chairman Emeritus of the American Association of Integrated Healthcare Delivery Systems (AAIHDS), a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) and a graduate of the University of South Florida.
