Retired members and their dependents who are eligible for Medicare Parts A and B are required to enroll in a TRAIL Medicare Advantage Prescription Drug (MAPD) Program. Effective July 1, 2025, enrollment is required when first eligible for Medicare by age or disability. There are exceptions for those currently covering two or more dependents until one dependent remains or all are Medicare eligible. Failure to enroll during the Benefit Choice Open Enrollment period (May 1 – June 2, 2025, for a July 1, 2025, effective date) will result in termination of coverage for the member and any covered dependents. Members must contact Social Security to enroll in Medicare Part A and B three months prior to their 65th birth month.
