The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), located in Baltimore, Maryland, issued a Notice of Imposition of Civil Money Penalty to Humana Inc. on January 17, 2025. The penalty of $99,064 was imposed for failures related to Medicare Advantage-Prescription Drug and Prescription Drug Plan contracts. CMS determined that Humana failed to comply with Part D coordination of benefits and low-income subsidy requirements in 2021, specifically by not reprocessing prescription drug claims and issuing refunds within 45 days of receiving updated information regarding enrollees' low-income subsidy status, resulting in enrollees being overcharged.
