2025-03-21

The Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) launched a Default Enrollment Pilot for select Medi-Medi Plans, which began in mid-2024 and is being implemented in San Diego and San Mateo counties. Health Plan of San Mateo (HPSM) in San Mateo is currently approved to participate in this pilot. This program automatically enrolls members in a Medi-Cal managed care plan who become eligible for Medicare into the aligned Dual Eligible Special Needs Plan (D-SNP), unless they choose a different Medicare option.

2024

Health Plan of San Mateo's Medi-Cal plan received a 4.5 out of 5-star rating from the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) in their annual Medicaid Health Plan Ratings report for 2024. This represents an improvement from their 2023 rating and places HPSM as one of only two health plans in California to earn 4.5 out of 5 stars from NCQA in 2024.
