Health Net Federal Services Inc. (HNFS) of Rancho Cordova, California, and its parent company, Centene Corporation, agreed to pay over $11.2 million to resolve claims that HNFS falsely certified compliance with federal cybersecurity requirements between 2015 and 2018 under a contract with the U.S. Department of Defense to administer the TRICARE health insurance program. The settlement resolves allegations that HNFS failed to meet certain cybersecurity controls, including timely scanning and remedying security flaws, and falsely certified compliance in annual reports to the Defense Health Agency.

Following the transition of the TRICARE West Region contract on January 1, 2025, beneficiaries and providers have been misdirecting a high volume of calls to Health Net Federal Services (HNFS), the former contractor. HNFS officials stated they have received a 'deluge of misdirected calls' and can only assist with questions related to claims filed for services rendered before January 1, 2025, as they are no longer authorized to answer questions about benefits, enrollment, referrals, or other current TRICARE topics.
