Mickey W. Foster is the chief executive officer (CEO) of FirstHealth of the Carolinas. As CEO, he is responsible for directing the development and operation of the Corporation, developing and coordinating goals, objectives, and strategic plans, and ensuring the core purpose of caring for people is fulfilled. [2, 5, 11, 22] He joined FirstHealth in July 2019. [6, 11] Prior to joining FirstHealth, he was president of The Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro, NC, and senior vice president for Cone Health from 2014 to 2019. [11, 22] He also served as president of Cone Health's Annie Penn Hospital and senior vice president of hospital operations from 2010 to 2014. [11, 22] His experience includes executive positions with Maria Parham Medical Center in Henderson, NC, and Duke Raleigh Hospital. Jonathan S. Davis serves as the chief operating officer (COO) for FirstHealth of the Carolinas and president of Moore Regional Hospital. [2, 9, 14] He is responsible for the daily oversight of FirstHealth’s operations, including direct responsibility for Montgomery Memorial Hospital, MRH-Richmond, and MRH-Hoke. [2, 14] Prior to his current position, he served as the president of Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital in Charlottesville, Virginia, from 2015 until February 2021. [14] His career also includes experience with Ascension and CHI-St. Vincent Health System. [14] Mr. Davis earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Arkansas State University, a Master of Arts degree from Northern Arizona University, and a Master of Public Health Administration from Tulane University/Arkansas Medical School. [14] He is a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives. [14]
Jenifir J. Bruno, M.D., was named FirstHealth chief medical officer on December 7, 2020. [2, 13, 19] Dr. Bruno became affiliated with FirstHealth in March 2003 as a hospitalist at Moore Regional Hospital. [2, 13, 19] In July 2008, she joined FirstHealth as assistant medical director for the Hospitalist Program. [2, 13, 19] Since joining FirstHealth, she has served in leadership roles for both the FirstHealth Physician Group and the Medical Affairs Division. [13, 19] She also served as medical director for FirstCarolinaCare Insurance Company. [13, 19] Dr. Bruno earned her medical degree from Creighton University and completed an internship and residency at the University of Kentucky Medical Center. Jeffrey A. Casey has served as chief financial officer since December 2020. [2, 13, 15] He previously served as interim CFO since August 1, 2020, vice president of finance and support services, and vice president, finance. [2, 13, 15] He joined FirstHealth in 1997 as the vice president of finance. [13] Prior to joining FirstHealth, he was the CFO of Columbia Southwest Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky, and controller of Bluegrass Regional Medical Center in Frankfort, Kentucky. [13, 15] He also served as chief accountant and assistant controller of Southern Hills Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee. Bernadette “Berni” Szczepanski, MBA, serves as chief people officer for FirstHealth of the Carolinas. [2, 5, 9, 20] She joined FirstHealth in March 2022. [5, 9, 20] Prior to joining FirstHealth, she most recently served as vice president, human resources for Northwestern Medicine in Chicago, Illinois. [8, 9, 20] She previously served as senior vice president of human resources for Centegra Health System. [8, 9, 20] She also held roles with Lawson Software and MacNeal Health Network. [8, 9] Berni earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Dayton and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Notre Dame. [9, 20]
Dana L. Casson, CFRE, was appointed President of The Foundation of FirstHealth, effective October 14, 2024. [2, 5, 10, 16, 21, 23, 25, 29] She brings more than 20 years of executive fundraising experience and has held key leadership roles at leading healthcare organizations. [2, 5, 10, 21] Prior to joining FirstHealth, she most recently served as vice president of philanthropy for Novant Health Foundation in Winston-Salem, NC. [10, 21] Her career includes leadership roles at OhioHealth Foundation, Vidant Health, MedStar National Rehabilitation Network, and Henry Ford Macomb Hospitals. [10, 21] She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication from Michigan State University and is a Certified Fund-Raising Executive (CFRE). [10, 21]
Chris Beasley, MBA, is FirstHealth's vice president, information systems/chief information officer (CIO). [2, 5, 7, 17, 18] He joined FirstHealth in 2021 after serving as CIO for Houston Healthcare in Warner Robins, Georgia. [2, 17, 18] In his healthcare career, he has also held information systems roles with health systems in Georgia and South Carolina, including St. Joseph's/Candler Health System and Lexington Medical Center. [17, 18] Beasley earned his bachelor's degree in business administration, computer-based information systems, and a master's degree in business administration from Georgia College and State University. [17, 18] He is a Certified Healthcare Chief Information Officer, a Certified Digital Health Executive, a Certified Information Systems Security Professional, and a Fellow in the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society. Dan Barnes, D.O., has served as president of FirstHealth Physician Group since January 2012. [2]
Susan Beaty, MSN, R.N., is president of the Eastern region and administrator of FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital-Hoke. [2]
