Effective January 1, 2025, the UniCare EDI payer ID (80314) changed to the new Wellpoint payer ID (WLPNT). Providers could begin seeing the new payer ID as early as December 15, 2024, and remittances started returning with the Wellpoint name on that date. Claims submitted before January 1, 2025, were to use the legacy UniCare payer ID, while claims submitted on or after January 1, 2025, were to use the new Wellpoint payer ID. Existing providers were automatically enrolled in Wellpoint and were not required to re-enroll.

UniCare announced on September 4, 2024, that it would be becoming Wellpoint by January 1, 2025. This change is part of a brand vision to be a source of lasting wellness for members. The company stated there would be no changes to provider agreements, contracts, reimbursement, or support levels due to the name change. For members, there would be no change in coverage or access to care. UniCare Health Plan of West Virginia, Inc. specifically became Wellpoint on January 1, 2025.
