Lou Gianquinto was named WellCare's state president for Missouri in September 2015. He was to lead WellCare's Medicaid business through its Missouri Care Health Plan and growth initiatives in the state. He reported to Dave Reynolds, WellCare's senior vice president and division president for Missouri and six other markets. [2] Most recently, Gianquinto was WellCare's vice president of Strategic Initiatives, where he focused on strengthening clinical analytics to achieve cost savings and vendor oversight. Before that, he served as vice president of Business Process Improvement. Prior to joining WellCare in 2010, Gianquinto held leadership roles for SCIOinspire Corp., UnitedHealthCare and Oxford Health Plans. He also co-owned Waymark Associates. [2] Gianquinto holds a bachelor's degree in Business Management from Southern Connecticut State University, and a master's degree in Business Administration. [2]
Michael A. Carson was appointed as President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Centene's Medicare business, Wellcare, effective January 22, 2024. [15] He is responsible for Medicare business performance, strategy and growth and reports to Centene President Ken Fasola. [15] Carson brings nearly three decades of leadership, operational and industry expertise with a focus on serving Medicare and dual-eligible populations. [15] Previous roles include CEO of value-based primary and multi-specialty care start-up CareAbout, CEO of Bright Health Plan, and President and CEO of Harvard Pilgrim Health Care. [15] He led the formation and rebuilding of Medicare businesses at both Amerigroup and Anthem. [15] Carson started his career in the United States Air Force. [15]
Drew Asher has served as Centene's Chief Financial Officer since May 2021. [5] He joined Centene in January 2020 in conjunction with the closing of the WellCare acquisition, where he served as executive vice president. [5] He joined WellCare in August 2014 as senior vice president, and served as executive vice president and chief financial officer of WellCare Health Plans beginning in October 2014. [5] He previously worked with Coventry Health Care for almost 15 years as Senior Vice President of Corporate Finance. [4] He began his career at Deloitte & Touche LLP. [4]
Based in the Greater St. Louis area, Shannon Bagley is the Chief Administrative Officer at Centene Corporation responsible for Human Resources, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, Real Estate, Workplace Resources, and Security. [4] His responsibility includes acquisitions, divestitures, investments, joint ventures, and other Centene partnerships. [4] He took part in the acquisition of Wellcare, Magellan, and HealthSmart. Chris Koster is currently the Secretary and General Counsel at Centene Corporation. [5] He joined Centene in 2017 and previously served as Missouri's attorney general. [9] He oversees all legal matters for the company. [5] During his time at Centene, the company has successfully acquired several other companies, including WellCare Health Plans. [5]
Susan Smith was appointed as Centene's Chief Operating Officer effective January 1, 2024. [10] As COO, Smith is responsible for Centene's core business operations, along with the payer's enterprise transformation office and population health, provider experience and quality initiatives.
