James G. “Jim” Springfield, FACHE, was named president of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX) in 2021. He previously served as national chief operating officer (COO) for Cancer Treatment Centers of America. Springfield has extensive senior leadership experience from various healthcare organizations, including 13 years with the Memorial Hermann Healthcare System in Houston, where he served as CEO of Hermann Children's Hospital and COO of Hermann. He also led Valley Baptist Health System in South Texas as president and CEO, founded three healthcare startup companies, and advised private equity and venture funds. He served as senior vice president of provider market growth and business development at Optum. Springfield is the 14th president of BCBSTX and is responsible for the overall strategic direction and growth strategy for Individual and Family Markets, as well as teams managing sales and marketing, network development, healthcare delivery, healthcare management, government and public relations, and market strategy. He is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and holds degrees from Baylor University and University of Houston – Clear Lake. He has served on numerous professional and community boards, including the American Hospital Association, Texas Hospital Association, and Baylor University, and is currently chairman of the Caring Foundation of Texas and a member of the Dallas Regional Chamber’s board of directors.
