Janice Torrez has been named incoming president of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico (BCBSNM) effective 2021, replacing Kurt Shipley. [2, 4] She provides strategic leadership and oversees the company's operations across the state. [3] With nearly 30 years of experience, she is a native New Mexican. [2] Prior to this role, she served as the Associate Vice President of External Affairs and Chief of Staff at BCBSNM since 2012. [2, 5, 12] She also previously led The Rezult Group, a healthcare consulting firm, and held leadership roles at St. Joseph Healthcare. [3, 5, 12] She has served on various local community boards, including the New Mexico Association of Commerce and Industry and the National Hispanic Cultural Center Foundation. [2, 12] She holds a bachelor's and master's degree from the University of Phoenix. [3, 5]
Nancy Smith-Leslie was appointed as the Vice President of New Mexico Medicaid for BCBSNM in March 2023. [10] She is responsible for the strategic direction and overall operations for the New Mexico Medicaid division and is based in BCBSNM's Albuquerque office. [10] She has over 20 years of experience in health care policy, programs, and operations, including serving as the State of New Mexico's Medicaid director. [10]
Maurice Smith was named Chief Executive Officer and President of Health Care Service Corporation (HCSC), the parent company of BCBSNM, effective June 1, 2020. [9] He has deep industry experience and has worked in various functions at HCSC over nearly 27 years. [9]
