State Leadership

Sam Shumway

Wyoming State Director

Sam earned both his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Wyoming. After graduating, he clerked for the Wyoming Supreme Court, worked with two Wyoming law firms, and spent a stint in the Wyoming Attorney General's office. Since 2016, Sam has served as the AARP Wyoming State Director, leading efforts in issue advocacy, community engagement, and stakeholder collaboration. [9, 10] He is the State Director for AARP Wyoming. [5]

Stella Montano

State President

Stella Montano, a long-time AARP volunteer and community leader has been selected as the next State President of AARP Wyoming. [4, 12] She serves as the head of the AARP Wyoming volunteer Executive Council and leads the council in developing the strategic direction for AARP Wyoming. [4, 12, 13, 14] She is also the primary volunteer spokeswoman sharing AARP's vision, mission, and strategic priorities. [4, 13] She retired from the Sheridan Senior Center in September 2019 where her position was Director of Family Caregiver Services. [6] She lives in Sheridan, Wyoming where she and her husband Clarence lead the AARP Community Action Team. [6] In addition to her work with AARP, she volunteers as a long time board member and current president at Life Link of Sheridan and is the President-Elect of the Sheridan County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. [4] She has also conducted dementia workshops, coordinated health fairs, and is part of the Council of Social Agencies. [4] Her term began on January 1, 2023. [4]
