Mia McNeil

State Director

Mia McNeil joined AARP Tennessee as State Director in January 2022. [3, 5, 11] She previously served as the Director of Government and Community Relations at the University of Michigan-Flint, managing community relationships and lobbying efforts. [2, 5, 11] Prior to that, she was an attorney/lobbyist for Kelley Cawthorne PC. [2, 5, 11] McNeil directed Michigan's Rock the Vote campaign and served on the legislative staff of Governor Jennifer Granholm. [2, 5, 11] She earned a J.D. from Thomas M. Cooley Law School and a B.A. from Tennessee State University. [2, 3, 5, 11] She is a member of the State Bar of Michigan, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®, the National Association of Parliamentarians, the Boards of Directors for the Pearls of Excellence Foundation and 100K Ideas, and the Nashville Rotary Club. Gerre Currie

State President

Gerre Currie was selected to serve as AARP Tennessee State President, the highest volunteer position in the state, becoming the first African American woman in this role. [7, 9, 10] She has served on the AARP Tennessee Executive Council since February 2021 and was interim state president. [7, 9, 10] Professionally, she is the Vice President and Community Development Officer at Financial Federal Bank. [7, 9, 10] Currie also served as an appointee on the Memphis City Council in 2019. [7, 9, 10] She attended Southwest Community College and is a graduate of the Barrett School of Banking. [7, 10] She is married to Larry L. Currie and has two sons, eight granddaughters, one grandson, and two great-grandchildren. [7, 10] She also serves on several boards addressing poverty, income disparity, and social services. [10]
