Has spent over 20 years working on community development efforts across the state of Iowa. He was with the Main Street Iowa program since 2002, serving under the Iowa Economic Development Authority. In this role, he led the coordination of technical assistance and grants for over 50 local community development nonprofits. He also served as a consultant for strategy development and fundraising for various nonprofits. He currently serves on the Main Street America Board of Directors. He is also President of Varsity Cinema + Des Moines Film. He has been a caregiver for both his parents.
Leads the AARP Iowa Executive Council and has served on the council since 2021. He is a retired Federal Attorney, having served with the United States Attorney's Office in the Northern District of Iowa from 1989 through 2011, including as Civil Chief. Prior to that, he was in private practice. He served on the Iowa Board of Corrections from 2014 to 2023 and volunteers with several organizations including the Iowa State Bar Association, Older Iowans Legislature, Heritage Area Agency on Aging, Johnson County Task Force on Aging, and Cedar Rapids West Rotary.
